Registration has opened for the annual Bridge the Gap charity walk through Cambridge colleges.

Cambridge’s best-loved community walk through University Colleges returns in September for the annual Bridge the Gap charity walk.

And registrations are now open, with walkers able to purchase their tickets online.

The Bridge the Gap walk, which follows a new route through the city and Colleges of the University of Cambridge, has taken place each year, since 2001.

The walk supports two great local charities, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill, with every pound spent on ticket sales going to the two charities.

This year’s walk on the morning of Sunday, September 13th will begin and end on Parker’s Piece, and details of the route will be revealed over the coming months.

The family-friendly walk will follow a unique route, new for this year’s event, going behind the gates and into the grounds of six Cambridge colleges.

The 25th Bridge the Gap walk, which took place last year, hosted nearly 2,200 walkers, helping to raise a record £63,000, shared equally by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill, the event’s two charity partners.

Supported by The Cambridge Building Society, in its 18th year as headline sponsor, the Bridge the Gap walk for 2026 is now officially open for registrations.

Places cost £22.50 per person, with all proceeds from tickets going to the two charities. Bookings can be made at: arhc.org.uk/btg, with up to three under-16s enjoying the walk with every paying adult.

Since 2001, over 52,000 walkers have helped to raise more than £750,000 for local charities.

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity Chief Executive, Sharon Allen, said:

“We are delighted to announce that Bridge the Gap returns in 2026 after the outstanding success of last year’s event. 2,156 walkers of all ages came together to raise an incredible £63,000 for the two charities.

In 2026, the walk will once again showcase some wonderful colleges, with a new route to enjoy, and we would love you to be part of it.

Join us on Sunday 13 September and help us make a difference locally.”

The full list of the Colleges taking part in Bridge the Gap 2026 will be revealed over the coming weeks. Walkers will be guided and helped on the wheelchair and pushchair friendly route by more than 120 volunteers and there will be a volunteer-led cake tents for refreshments and live acoustic music on Parker’s Piece.

As well as headline sponsor, The Cambridge Building Society, the event is also being sponsored by Cambridge University Press and Assessment and the Rotary Club of Cambridge.

Neil Perry, Chief Executive at Romsey Mill, said:

“Bridge the Gap is a unique and wonderful event, that shows Cambridge at its best, bringing together local people, businesses, and community groups.

We are thrilled to have three prestigious local organisations supporting the event, through their sponsorship, helping to make the event possible in the first place.

Both charities rely on funds from events like this and the money raised will go a long way to ensuring that we can continue to do the vital work to be present for those we are alongside.

I’m really excited to see the event grow in the way that it has and I look forward to seeing many familiar faces on the day, as well as those taking part for the very first time.”

Carole Charter, Chief Commercial Officer at The Cambridge Building Society, said:

“Bridge the Gap continues to be a key fixture in the Cambridge Building Society calendar – we are delighted to headline sponsor for the 18th year to help make the event happen and to deliver long-lasting change for people in our community.

“We expect to have dozens of our team members helping out and walking the route again this year and I encourage people from across the region to join us to help raise vital funds for these brilliant charities.”
