Our work Young parents We believe that young parents can be fantastic parents! Romsey Mill's Young Parents Programme exists to help young mums and dads to fulfil their potential as parents, as individual young women and men, and as members of society. We love journeying with parents from early pregnancy, offering 1:1 support and home visiting, helping them to prepare practically and psychologically for family life. This support continues into the first years of the baby’s life and also includes antenatal and postnatal groups and courses. Through our direct work young parents Build confidence – as a person/parent/student/employee/friend/neighbour Build knowledge – about independent living and budgeting, practical parenting skills, healthy relationships, good mental health, education and employment opportunities Build connections – bonding with babies, co-parenting, working across generations, broadening social and support networks Romsey Mill's Young Parents Programme is unique because… We offer to work with all young mums (under 20) and young dads (under 25), regardless of level of need in Cambridge. We support dads, not just mums! Valuing and supporting young dads is a key part of our work and we have a specialist member of staff to head this up. We have years of experience directly supporting young parents in and around Cambridge, but we also have a county-wide contract with Cambridgeshire County Council to coordinate support for young parents. This strategic level work seeks to improve equity in the support offered to young parents, to advocate on behalf of young parents, to create opportunities for young parents’ voices to be heard, to look at existing systems and services and possibly work towards new ones and to provide training for professionals whilst being an example of, and keeping up to date with, best practice For more information, please contact the Young Parents Programme team at [email protected] or 01223 213162.
