Mental Health Awareness Week 2026: Danny's story

For Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, the Mental Health Foundation is asking people to take action to support good mental health. Danny's* story (not his real name) shows one of the ways that Romsey Mill takes action to support young people experiencing one or more of a number of disadvantages, including the effects of poor mental health.

Aspire delivers youth clubs and support, in and around Cambridge, for autistic children and young people, in mainstream education (Year 5 and above).
Our story

Story of Romsey Mill
Cara Coffee

Cara Coffee is a social enterprise run through a partnership with Great Shelford Free Church to support the work of Romsey Mill. The coffee shop on 29 High Street, Great Shelford, is run by amazing volunteers, and is a community hub serving delicious ethically sourced coffee, drinks and food.
Youth Development Team

Romsey Mill's Youth Development Team engages with young people (aged 10 - 21 years) across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, to help them live fulfilling lives and inspire change in the world around them.
Community facilities

Romsey Mill has various community rooms and facilities available for hire at Romsey Mill Centre (the charity's own building) and at Ross Street Community Centre.
Young parents

The Young Parents Programme is a leading provider offering support and friendship for teenage and young people in Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire. The support includes home visits, individual support, antenatal classes tailored for young parents, peer support and child development, education and further training.
Our Pre-school

Our Early Years programme, based at our Pre-school setting in Romsey Mill Centre, caters for 2 - 4 year olds.
Main Hall

The Main Hall at Mill Road Community Centre (CB1 2GN) is a large (135m2), light filled venue, perfect for large and small group events and celebrations. It can also be split into two smaller hireable spaces.
Romsey Mill Charity Shop

Our Charity Shop is based at 176 Mill Road in Cambridge and provides preloved clothing, toys, books and lots of of other household items.
Training

We are passionate about empowering passionate people to provide good quality youth work. We currently offer training for the Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles (running for 12 weeks from Monday 24th February 2025, excluding school and Bank Holidays), suitable for current and future youth workers to develop new skills and gain qualifications.
